I first discovered Valencia in 1984 and immediately felt at home. Maybe that's not so surprising since locals know it as
"the California of the Mediterranean". Although it's Spain's 3rd largest city, Valencia is still very friendly, very safe and
very Spanish (which is a bit unique for a country of 44 million residents with 75 million annual visitors). After plenty of
research and visits to coastal towns popular with foreign buyers, I bought a piso in Valencia in 2016. Although I
already knew the city reasonably well, it was a new real estate market for me with unforeseen, potentially costly, risks.
